Who Are Those Guys
by Larry Turner

The overriding decision for the Heat this season is to determine who they are. Are they a by-the-book team that adheres to scripted plays until someone is open for a makable shot; or will they resemble a pick-up team using speed, versatility and athleticism to streak down the court and let the first open teammate toss up the first shot. Whichever they decide to be, how does Herro fit in and which approach will be most comfortable for Ware if he is to become the centerpiece of the team.

To date in the early part of this season, we have seen the Heat appear unstoppable and unbeatable when they push the pace with Herro back in the line-up, but we have also seen a very vulnerable team when the approach is to adopt a script for each opponent.

Fortunately, the team has a solid coach in Spo, one who is flexible enough to adopt the right approach for the opponent they are facing.

The starters are formidable, especially when Wiggins and Powell are healthy and can team up with Herro, Bam and Ware. Jovic is still developing and has both great and sloppy games but seems willing and able to become more consistent and contribute every game. And when Jaquez flies off the bench the rest of the team better be prepared to wear their shoes off tearing up and down the court. It might best be described as “Attack & Explode.”

If nothing else, this team will be exciting and should improve as the season moves on and the players feel comfortable with each other. Be prepared for a fun and exciting year.
