Dreams Can Teach Valuable Life Lessons
by Larry Turner

This is a true story about three different people: the Dreamer, two Minority Men, and an unaccompanied Woman.

The Dreamer Is walking down a street in town and sees a barn-like structure with its front and back doors open, much like a barn on a working farm. It strikes the Dreamer that the back door opens onto a street he has been looking for, so he enters what appears to be an empty building to access that street.

Upon entering, the Dreamer sees two Minority Men leaning against an interior wall, just talking and relaxing. As he is about to walk past them, a Woman enters through the same open door heading towards the street through the open back door. When she is about level in the building with the position of the Minority Men, the Dreamer starts to walk with her as if to protect her from the men, whereupon one of the men confronts the Dreamer as if he was about to threaten him, or worse, to vent his frustration that someone would even dream that the Woman might need protection from the Minority Men. The approaching man acts like he is about to spit on the Dreamer; instead, he returns to join his friend against the wall. In the meantime, the Woman continues through the building and out the back door. The Dreamer is a bit shaken by the experience and himself exits through the back door as well.

When you recall this dream over and over, a couple of lessons become clear. First, it is not smart for a person like the Dreamer to enter a building with which he is not familiar, by himself. He was trespassing on someone’s property and exposing himself to whatever might lurk inside. Second, the Woman made the same mistake and apparently was oblivious to others being present on her path to the back street.

The most important lesson, however, is that no one should assume a risk exists simply because of the nationality or color of the people around you. The Minority Men had no ill intentions and should be proud that they swallowed hard and restrained themselves from expressing their frustration physically towards the Dreamer. No one deserves to be judged negatively by their color or their place of origin. People who cannot adopt this attitude should pack up and relocate to another world.

P.S.

Later in the same day as the Dreamer’s dream, he drove to the postal store, got out of his car, and headed for the front door of the store. Where he parked there was no sidewalk next to the car, so he stepped onto the grass to reach the sidewalk. When he did so, he encountered a step-up of a few inches to access the sidewalk. In taking the first step up, his body tilted backwards, he lost his balance and began to fall on his back, and probably his head. A gentleman sitting on a bench in front of the Dreamer’s car jumped forward and grabbed him before he actually fell. That person, in addition to being the Dreamer’s angel, was a Minority Man.

Let that sit in!

By the way, in case you were wondering, the name of the Dreamer lies at the top of this piece beneath the title.

Pleasant dreams!
