This article is being written prior to the season opener, indeed even prior to the February 11 reporting date for the players. Nonetheless, based on this paucity of knowledge, it would not appear that the team is as strong this early as it was at the conclusion of last season.
The infield seems set for now, with third base having more than one potential starter in Norby and Pauley. Stowers and Marsee also appear cast for two spots in the outfield with Caissie the third likely starter. The starting pitching roster is strong and will need to be as effective as possible because the bullpen will have to prove itself before the staff as a whole can be removed from the “ify” list.
Only time will tell whether management has corralled enough top players to make the team a likely playoff contender. It should be fun watching this unfold during the early part of the season, but if they don’t prove worthy enough it could be a long season.
