It has become boring to write, and I am sure to read, about the shortcomings of the Miami Heat. They are terribly inconsistent either because of injuries or players not playing up to their potential. In any case, the team has lost the identity with which it started the season, with a furious run and shoot style, to become a group that loses its cohesion usually in the third quarter and squanders away large leads.
The defense on the other hand has lost its verve while the offense has lost its aim, with the result making it a lower scoring team giving up too many points at the other end of the court. In a word, they have lost their identity. It is also evident that they no longer have a floor leader to settle everyone down and return to what worked during the early stages of the season.
It remains to be seen whether Spoelstra can create an identity that plays to the strengths of the players and develops a consistent scheme that can be adhered to for the balance of the season.
