Expectations for the new Marlins organization and team were tempered going into their initial season, but to most everyone’s surprise the team came hot out of the box at the season’s start. Whereas effective pitching had been expected, hitters out-dueled those on the mound for the first several games.
The team continues to display great energy and effort even though wins have been more difficult to achieve as the season wears on. Speaking of wearing, baseball at the professional level continues to be somewhat boring even when the home team is winning. There is simply too much inaction when compared to other seasonal sports like basketball and hockey. The commissioner’s office needs to continue to find ways to speed things up and create more exciting activity.
There is unquestionably talent on the roster on which to build a competitive group. At the present though, management and the players are to be congratulated for their respective performances. We look forward to continued improvement and excitement.
