Societal Change Is Occurring With Blistering Speed
by Larry Turner

It is inevitable for changes to occur in any society over hundreds or even dozens of years. What is striking about the changes charging through our lives today is the speed with which they are undermining the long-standing fabric of our society. Consider the following ways in which our lives have been impacted without our actively seeking such re-inventions, and how this has occurred within a very short time frame:

Lies about important issues or people initiated or promoted by a media profession that used to be highly regarded as responsible and reliable.

Uncovered corruption in local and federal governments resulting in billions of dollars being diverted to unintended uses that benefit individuals or organizations.

Umpires in professional sports making decisions that are either incredibly stupid or intentionally made for the benefit of someone not participating in the event in question.

Local law enforcement officers being arrested for theft and violence which heretofore went unreported and unpunished.

Campus protests by students and paid protesters which in the past would have resulted in the dismissal from the affected institution of every student involved and the arrest of the other participants.

Protesters at every level attacking law enforcement who are attempting to dismantle the activity but who are not being punished for their illegal behavior.

Horrendous violence being committed daily by illegal immigrants who were almost invited into our country by prior governments and now receive light or no punishment for their heinous activities.

Our government ceding our space program to private citizens or industry who may or may not have all the goals of our country in mind when devising  these important but dangerous missions.

The impact of rapidly arriving new technology, referred to as AI, that can perform the functions of hundreds of individuals in seconds, thereby placing in jeopardy the positions of thousands of bright, young, recently employed workers throughout the country.

The recently initiated NIL program that pays millions of dollars to individuals involved in sports who have not yet graduated college and may or may not ever develop talents warranting such embellishment.

So-called VIP doctors who require the payment of an annual fee to accept a new patient; if such a program was adopted by dentists, attorneys, accountants, physical therapists, hairdressers, and others it would make living a normal life nearly unaffordable.

This list could be extended for pages, but the point is that events, activities and individual actions are now part of our lives that would have been terminated instantly had they occurred just a few years ago. Is this the direction we desire for the future of our country and society?
