From my first day in Tallahassee to this final legislative session, my focus has always been the same: to listen to constituents, work hard, and represent our District 100 community in Tallahassee. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working alongside local and state leaders to support legislation to strengthen public safety and bring back key resources to District 100. This last year is no different – it is about finishing strong and continuing to advocate for South Florida’s most pressing issues, and ensuring that your concerns are heard.
I represent seven coastal cities in Broward County, and I am proud to be sponsoring two bills that work with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to improve and restore our waterway systems. HB 751 allows for the DEP to enter into public-private partnerships with local governments for private entities to invest in seawall restoration. Additionally, HB 1417 revises and creates various provisions relating to the Environmental Regulation Commission, central sewer system connections, wastewater treatment systems, and more for the DEP. Both bills strengthen the coordination between our community and DEP, enhancing long-term access to clean water.
District 100 is filled with great businesses, and as a business owner myself, I wanted to sponsor legislation that would allow businesses to thrive. HB 1511 would authorize the Supreme Court to create a statewide business court and reduces the business filing fee. This bill also provides new businesses the opportunity to receive a waiver on their taxes after moving here, looking to create efficiency and consistency for our businesses. Another piece of legislation that I am sponsoring is HJR 1275, which is a House Joint Resolution that proposes an amendment to the State Constitution to prohibit the levy-ing of ad valorem taxes on tangible personal property for businesses.
Finally, I have also filed twenty-nine appropriations for District 100, totaling $78.6M. These projects span six different silos of the appropriations committees. Below are a few of the appropriations that have been filed for our district municipalities:
– Deerfield Beach: Deerfield Beach Fire Station 4 Rehabilitation Project
– Ft. Lauderdale: Fort Lauderdale Galt Ocean Mile Street Improvement Project
– Lauderdale By The Sea: Bougainvilla Drive & Poinciana Street Improvement Projects
– Lighthouse Point: Lighthouse Point Seawall Improvement Project, Lighthouse Point Stormwater Improvement Project – Priority Area 1 SWMP, Lighthouse Point Public Safety Improvement Project, and Lighthouse Point NE 31st Court Bridge Replacement Project
– Hillsboro Mile: Hillsboro Beach Water Treatment Plant Clearwell Storage Tank Replacement and Hillsboro Inlet Critical Access and Erosion Control Project
– Pompano Beach: Pompano Beach Industrial Area Stormwater Improvement Project and Pompano Beach Barrier Island-Intracoastal Wastewater Force-main Crossing
It is always my goal is to help make Florida a better place for every resident. If you have questions, or concerns, please reach out to my office and we would be happy to help you in any way we can.
As always, it is an honor to serve you as your State Representative in Tallahassee.
