Meet Cody
by Larry Turner

Over the course of our long, loving and rewarding marriage, my wife and I have been blessed with several dogs that immeasurably brightened our lives while they were part of ours. That included George, Gracie, Kilo, Kola, Lucky Lou and, our most recent addition, Cody. To make certain that no one is con-fused, George was a female and Gracie a male. Everything clear now?

When our penultimate pup departed for her bed next to our Lord, we thought long and hard over whether we needed a healthy, spunky pup dashing around the house trying to get us to roll on the floor and play. Of course, logic prevailed and we welcomed a candidate into our home and our arms so that we could develop an initial acquaintance with it to see if there were mutual feelings.

Possible names flew at us from all directions: Cash, Kash, Kobi, Charlie, Koda, Kody, etc. somehow resulting in the final adoption of “Cody”.

While our candidate was waiting to be defrocked of his manhood, we made a terrible mistake. We invited him into our home to “get acquainted” with the surroundings. He did that, and more. He ran around to explore every nook and cranny, then gave in to exhaustion and slept with us on the couch for the remainder of the visit. The result was falling in love with a sweet baby who we would not see again until his medical issues were dealt with and he had fully recovered.

Our fully recovered pup rejoined us and became part of our lives, but not without some discussion. The conversation centered around which of us would ruin our already weary backbones to feed the pup, provide him with water, and pick up his little poops and pees, which often missed the multiple pee pads on our floors by slightly less than a mile.

But he is slowly becoming a loving member of our family. I cannot wait for my wife to start the discussion about how great it would be for Cody to have the company of a mate!
