It is nearly impossible to evaluate the effects of the team’s off-season acquisitions and trades until the final roster has an opportunity to play together for several games.
A quick reaction would be to predict that the additions of players like Jakucionis and Powell will provide more talent and effort than those who departed as part of those transactions. Unfortunately, the Heat’s number 1 draft pick, Kasparas Jakucionis, was touted as a versatile playmaker but his initial performance in the summer league was disappointing
When Powell is added to the group consisting of Bam, Herro, Wiggins, Mitchell, Jaquez, Jovic, Ware, Fontecchio and company, the team should be solid; and sufficient big men now grace the roster to make them a threat from the inside and at longer range.
Whether this group will play a seamless style of basketball remains to be seen, but the talent should exist throughout the roster. What needs to be avoided is having too many players worried about their individual stats rather than how the team performs. That will be Spo’s job, and he has shown over the years that he is up to that task.
